LGBC Launches the ARZ 2.0 Advancing the ARZ Green Building Rating System (GBRS)

Web based Green Building Rating System

As part of the Development of the ARZ green building rating system, Lebanon Green Building Council- LGBC, held a “Train the Trainers” 4-day Workshop in the Order of Engineers and Architects in Beirut on the 20, 21 , 27 and 28th of May 2021.

The ARZ rating system is being developed in partnership with UNDP’s Cedro program to establish a web-based rating system adapted for the green buildings in the Lebanese market. The project is based on a grant from the European Commission – EuropeAid/163032/DD/ACT/LB EU-Funded UNDP-CEDRO V project that was awarded to LGBC and CEDRO September 2019.

As a start the rating system will consider building sectors involving a big number of occupants including, educational facilities, hospitals, hotels, malls, offices and residential as well as mixed use buildings. The rating will tackle new design, new construction, and existing buildings.

The Workshop trainers are professionals covering all the aspects of the rating system including, site, material, energy, water, indoor air quality and wellness, operation and maintenance.

The attendees were selected from a spectrum of professionals who are experience in similar international and regional rating systems to introduce them to the ARZ 2.0 portal and to get their feedback and comments on the system and criteria. They are the first group of engineers and professionals that will receive this training as more workshops are planned to disseminate knowledge of the envisaged portal. The trainees are also potential assessors for the potential  projects under assessment.

The ARZ 2.0 Advancing the ARZ Green Building Rating System (GBRS)  will be based on main modules with subfamilies in each module. The modules are: Site , Material, Water , Wellness, and Energy. In addition, the rating will range from: Uncertified, Certified, Bronze, Silver , Gold , and Platinum.

Very rich and intensive interactions and discussions were exchanged during the four-day workshop which helped in highlighting challenges and chances of improvement of the system.

It should be mentioned that the portal of the ARZ 2.0 is the product of the work of a specialize committee of LGBC members and a professional specialized web designers. The design of the website will enable clients to assess their buildings through a user friendly interface with minimal support of a qualified and trained assessor.
