Throughout his “Blue skies: planning for architecture in Beirut” presentation, Aram Yeretzian’s discussed the definition of “green” buildings, the competing logics associated with the understanding of “green” buildings over time and identified how “green architecture” starts with green planning (evolution of Beirut and its buildings). The presentation ended with a discussion on how buildings within a city can contribute to the evolution of the city as an environmental construct.
The session was moderated by Architect Firas Mortada (OEA) and included presentations by Dr. Shady Attia (Architect), Christina Abi Haidar (lawyer) and Farah (PhD researcher).
The presentations were followed by an extended discussion with the audience who asked questions about the role of governance and its relationship to the environmental condition, the importance of education in preparing professionals for the challenging future state of the environment as well as other relevant topics.
